Planting seeds

Since releasing the new ortho yesterday, I’ve uploaded about 200GB of data. If you’re able to help seed the torrents, then that will help increase the download speed for others. It’s a pretty big ask to hold on to 200GB of zip files, and you’d want to have an uncapped internet connection.

I treated myself to a new aircraft to celebrate: the Maule M7. It’s really very impressive the way this little plane performs and provides some really interesting capability in short takeoff/landing.

It has a few interesting quirks. The plane cruises at negative flaps. It comes with standard tires, bush tires and floats, which I can use to test out the new water turbidity.

So far I’ve tested it around Nelson and the West Coast and found that the angle of attack indicator is great to ensure you’re on speed for landing. It’s also the first tail dragger I’ve flown in X-Plane, so I found that ground loops are very possible. All in all, it looks great.

En route from Nelson to Takaka:

A dawn flight down the West Coast:

Flying VFR is a chance to get a new perspective of the terrain. The sim has just been updated and now features a dynamic camera that moves based on physics. If you change direction, the camera will react as your head would. This is noticeable when you touch down and see a shudder effect. Turbulence works in a similar way, which is very nice.

I’ve used HeadShake and XPRealistic, so this is a good addition to add this natively, something new users will appreciate.

If you’ve not experienced it, give it a go.

  1. First of all, THANK YOU for what looks like a magnificent result with these XP12 2025 Orthos.
Downloaded the lot and look forward to flying all of NZ to admire your hard work. Happy to seed the files when ever my PC is running, albeit that with Wireless Broadband the available upload speed is limited.

Thanks again for making this available to the community.

  2. Thank you for being back ! Appreciate all you are doing… Have been using your original ortho’s and now trying to download the latest set, but is going to take forever (months!) as total lack of seeders… is there another way? Thanks again …

    • The seeds to peers ratio is actually a lot healthier today than it has been. You should have fairly good download speeds, but it can be variable.

In Qbittorrent you should have some icons down the bottom. Have a look to see if there is one indicating that it is unable to make connections. This would indicate that you need to open up your firewall for the application (or something).

  5. Hi there, I love your work on NZ Ortho 2025! It really transform the VFR flying experience for me in X Plane 12 and it is a must have for NZ flying in the sim! Thank you for doing it!

Hey quick question: I have read it somewhere that installing X-Plane UHD Mesh Scenery v4 is recommended to build a base layer of mesh before apply your Ortho pack, is this correct? I don’t notice much difference and had deleted the X-Plane UHD Mesh Scenery v4 but kept yours.

any points would be much appreciated. thank you once again!
