About

This package is an ortho-photography scenery package for X-Plane constructed using Ortho4XP. It will replace ground textures with images derived from aerial photographs that should make the simulator much more immersive.

My effort has been primarily focussed on blending together different photo sets to give a seamless experience for the whole of New Zealand and the Chatham Islands.

There are two levels of terrain mesh available, for the entire of New Zealand you can download the following scenery packs:

Ultra High Def Mesh

In addition, you can download a highly detailed mesh version of some of this scenery. Simply overwrite the tiles you wish to replace with the UHD version.

The only feasible way to distribute this amount of data is through peer-to-peer technology, such as torrent files. Using this technology the files are downloaded from a distributed network of clients. Please seed this torrent if you are fortunate enough to have spare bandwidth to contribute. This will ensure the distribution network remains viable.

Note: You will need to install a torrent client such as BitTorrent.

Download the scenery packages by first downloading the Torrent File from the link below. Open the Torrent application and add the Torrent file to your torrent client to begin downloading:

Overlaid objects on top of the Ortho

You have two options to add objects to your scenery:

Option 1: Download the Overlay which will add trees, buildings and power-lines derived from default data here.

Option 2: (the better option) – I have extracted an overlay for NZ using World2XPlane. You will need to download World-Models to add the assets for this overlay to load. Find details here.

Installation Information

1. Once downloaded, copy the folders into your X-Plane 11\Custom Scenery folder\
2. Load X-Plane and then immediate close it. This will add your scenery to the config file without you having to manually add it all.
3. Go to your X-Plane 11\Custom Scenery\ folder and edit your scenery_packs.ini file with a text editor.
4. All of your new scenery will be added to your custom scenery_packs.ini file, however the order they are loading is probably wrong.
5. Move the lines referring to your new Ortho to the bottom. Make sure the ‘yOrtho4xp_Overlays’ or ‘Lyndiman_Overlay…’ line is above all the zOrtho4xp_… lines.

For reference, my Scenery ini file looks something like this:

All going well. You should have the ortho scenery with trees, roads, street lights, airports, buildings and power-lines loading on top.
