Here’s a quick video on dropping LGB’s (in this GBU-12’s) on targets using CCRP mode. This is a great way to fly at a high altitude, in a straight line and have the computer take care of all the hard work. You fly high over the target, drop a bomb and the laser guides it in.
This mode is for avoiding ground fire and still being accurate. Unfortunately you will still be vulnerable to some SAM’s so always scan for threats before ingress. Another limitation is that you can only drop one bomb at a time. So if you want to destroy a lot of targets quickly you might want to look at dropping multiple JDAM’s in a single pass.
I find LGB’s easy and effective. It’s not quite as fun as swooping over the tree tops though.
