Adding objects on top of the Ortho

Ortho provides texture for the ground, but you will need add objects, such as trees, roads and buildings. You can choose from a couple of methods.

Option 1: Download and install the excellent SimHeaven You can also choose to buy Global Trees from Orbx, which I use instead of the SimHeaven trees.

Option 2: Use the yOrtho4XP_Overlays folder in the google drive link above. This is extracted from default data (note below that you will need to ensure the reference in your scenery ini file appears above the zOrtho4XP lines, or you will have ground textures with no objects on top.

Installation Information

  1. Once downloaded, copy the folders into your X-Plane 12\Custom Scenery folder\
  2. Load X-Plane and then immediate close it. This will add your scenery to the config file but probably in the wrong order.
  3. Go to your X-Plane 12\Custom Scenery\ folder and edit your scenery_packs.ini file with a text editor, such as notepad.
  4. You will need to reorder the lines in this file. Move the lines referring to zOrtho4XP to the bottom.
  5. If you are using the ‘yOrtho4xp_Overlays’ to add objects to your sim, unzip the folder and add it to your Custom Scenery folder. Ensure that your reference to this appears above all your zOrtho4xp_ lines in your scenery ini file.

It should something like this:
